I have posted here on my blog the celebration that recently took place on October 9, 2012 after the birth of our sixth child, a little boy named Joseph Arlie Whitlow IV. It took place in the waiting room at Prince William County Hospital in front of God and everybody. We didn’t care we were so elated and delightfully surprised.
I’ve watched this video now many times. Each time a get a grin and a chill, but not just because it was my son. The chill now comes from the utter joy and unashamed display of happiness by grown adults. It still makes me laugh.
I’m thinking this is a little of what it must be like in Heaven when one person crosses the line and is born again into the family of God. In Luke 15 Jesus tells three parables about something that was lost being found – a sheep, a coin, and a son. After the lost object is recovered there is unspeakable joy. Jesus makes the connection for us in Luke 15:10, “In the same way, I tell you, there is rejoicing in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”
Never mind grown adults, but dignified angels jumping, laughing, and dancing. If this is the kind of joy heaven feels when a soul is saved, may God help us all, including me, be more focused on helping those lost in sin find a new birth through faith in Jesus Christ. The same joy that envelopes heaven will erupt in our own hearts.
