This week we enjoyed some family time at Myrtle Beach. We love the sights and sounds of the ocean.
I discovered my son enjoys digging holes in the sand. He would spend a good hour just digging. With the help of his older cousins, his holes became several feet deep. I think he believed his efforts would uncover a giant crab or some hidden treasure.
One of our favorite activities is walking the beach. As we did I noticed other kids enjoyed digging holes as well. At the end of a long day the shore line was marked with craters, holes, trenches, scrapes, footprints, and marks of all sizes.
But something wonderful happened each morning without fail. All those pits and scars were washed away by the water. In the early morning light the sand was without defect – smooth and clean as far as the eye can see.
The ocean’s power reminds us of the love God. The love of God is wider than the oceans and deeper than the seas. As we think of the majesty of the ocean it fills us with awe and wonder. Much greater still is the love of God for his children.
Each day when call on him for grace and forgiveness he covers all our failures and sins, giving us a fresh beginning. Lamentations 3:22-23 says, “The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”
Remember the scars and mars from our past were washed with something far greater than any wave. Our past record was cleansed in the tide of the blood of Christ. Ephesians 1:7 says, “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”
If you look back on your life and see pits and holes, call on Jesus. There is awesome power in his name to cover the deepest failures. He can take the scarred shoreline of your past and make it spotless in his sight.
