Have you ever sat in an awkward spot for a length of time and found your foot or leg asleep? How about trying to turn your alarm clock off with an arm that’s asleep? You’re wandering, “OK, who chopped my arm off in the night?”
Its hard to mobilise the body for action when a member is unresponsive, or out of sync with the rest of the body. You can’t run, can’t reach as you should.
One of the pictures we have for the church in the New Testament is a body. We are the the body of Christ the Bible says. Jesus is not here in bodily form any longer, but He’s left us, the church to be his mouth, hands, feet, and arms. If His work is to be done it will be done through us. But, we’ll not get very far without unity, every member coming together, serving one another, together.
When we’re not in unity it’s like foot, hand, or arm is asleep. We can’t run, reach, and minister as the Lord would have us. Let’s all wake up to the fact the unity is essential. 1 Corinthians 1:10 says – “I appeal to you, brothers, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be united in the same mind and the same judgment.”
