What do we do with Michael Vick being announced as the new starting QB for the Philadelphia Eagles? He’s the former NFL star who’s amazing career fell apart after he was convicted on federal dog fighting charges, serving 20 months in prison, and rightfully so. That’s down right heartless. But, he’s back. His coach, Andy Reid says he looks better than ever. He said last Sunday he played out of his mind and it was a beautiful thing.
To make a spiritual connection, it sounds like grace to me. Remember the prodigal who blew 1/3 of of his father’s inheritance on prostitutes and wild parties. In the pig pen he came to himself. It was like he went insane for a spell and returned humbly home. His father, a picture of our Heavenly Father, threw a welcome back party.
Isn’t there something in us that wishes Michael Vick would suffer more for what he did? I think if we’re honest, it’s there. In the same sense, I don’t get God’s amazing grace! When we should suffer and pay, he receives us with compassion when we repent and return to him. He takes what was dead and restores it to life.
